Huntsville, Alabama aka Rocket City

John Hunt first settled the location in 1805 and was first named Twickenham. The town was renamed Huntsville in 1811 after its first settler. The old historic Huntsville area is sometimes still referred to as Twickenham.

Huntsville is located in central Madison county and now stretches into Limestone county. It has grown across the foothills of the Tennesse Moutains and along the Tennessee River, the area ranges from open cotton fields to the rolling mountains on the Eastern side of Huntsville. Residents can enjoy boating and fishing on the Tennessee river.

The major employers are technology, space and defense industries including Cummings Research Park, NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center and the United States Army Aviation and Missile Command nearby at the Redstone Arsenal.  Huntsville has one of the highest per capita income levels in the southeast.

Huntsville is one of the most recognized cities in the southeast.

In 2009 Huntsville was named as one of the best cities for business and quality of life. Kiplinger’s Personal Finance named Huntsville as America’s Best City

The National Trust for Historic Preservation named Huntsville to its “America’s Dozen Distinctive Destinations for 2010″ list.
